Who Should Attend: This initiative will provide an interdisciplinary structure for training, implementation, and even institutionalization of this integrated training model to public health professionals and volunteers including, but not limited to, nurses, diabetes educators, pharmacists, cessation specialists, health care providers, social workers, and paraprofessionals.

Objectives:
  • Increase the use of the Ask Advise Refer brief intervention in diabetes and tobacco programs
  • Increase the use of PA cAARds among community based health care organizations
  • Improve understanding of statewide and local resources for diabetes education and management and tobacco cessation services
  • Improve understanding of integrated strategies and identify where organizations fit into the organizational integration continuum

Cost: There is no charge to attend this meeting.

Registration Includes: Meals, materials, and continuing education credits.

Travel and Lodging Assistance: Workshop attendees anticipating travel and lodging expenses may qualify for financial assistance including overnight accommodations the evening of May 25. Requests will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Please contact Scott Booker at the Health Promotion Council via email at sbooker@phmc.org ASAP or no later than May 20 for consideration.

Continuing Education Credits: The following continuing education credits will be provided at no charge to participants: Nursing, Dietician, Social Worker, and General CEU's.

Nursing Accreditation
This continuing nursing education activity has been approved for 3.0 contact hours by the UPMC Provider Unit of the PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. To receive contact hours, the participant must sign in and attend the entire conference.

Registered Dietician and/or Dietetic Technician Credits
Application for CPE credit has been filed with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the American Dietetic Association. Determination of credit is pending.

Social Work Credits
This program is offered for 3.0 hours of Social Work continuing education through co-sponsorship of the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work, a Council of Social Work Education accredited school and, therefore, a Pennsylvania pre-approved provider of social work continuing education. These credit hours satisfy the requirements for the LSW/LCSW, LPC, and LMFT biennial license renewal. For more information on social work continuing education call (412) 624-3711.

Continuing Education Units
The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 0.30 continuing education units (CEU's) which are equal to 3.0 contact hours to participating healthcare professionals.
